Choosing the perfect engagement ring
When choosing an engagement ring, different woman have different outlooks on what makes their engagement ring fabulous. Choosing from different types of metals to different types and shapes of stones can also be difficult when one has no clue what she is looking for.
Materials or metals the ring can be made in ranges from Yellow Gold/White gold (10k, 14k or 18k), Platinum, Titanium or even Palladium.
The main difference between the diverse metals is price. Platinum would be the most expensive because of its high precious metal value. The lowest compared to Platinum would be Titanium due to the fact that it is not a precious metal although still pricey for some engagement rings due to its hardness and difficulty to work with.
There are also different advantages and disadvantages to the different metals. Platinum, is a very soft metal that will dent and scratch easily whereas Titanium is a very hard metal that has a longer durability.
Stones to be chosen from can vary from Coloured stones to Diamonds or even Cubic Zirconium. The main difference between the two is that a Diamond is a native crystalline carbon that is the hardest known mineral. It is usually nearly colorless. Diamonds make excellent abrasives, because they can be scratched only by other diamonds, or man-made materials, which also mean that they hold a polish extremely well and retain their lustre. When transparent and free from flaws it is highly valued as a precious stone.
A cubic zirconium is well known as a substitute for a diamond, due to its high hardness and great fire. But in recent years, it has established itself as a gorgeous gem in its own right. CZ is a beautiful synthetic gemstone that is durable and inexpensive and now even comes in any color of the rainbow, making it even more desirable.
Diamonds, Cubic Zirconium or any other coloured stones come in a vast array of different shapes and sizes. Shapes vary from Round to Square, usually referred to as Princess Cut, Heart Shape, Emerald Cut, Marquise, Octagonal and more. These shapes are available in Diamonds as well as for Coloured stones.
I have encountered different types of customers throughout my 12 years of experience in the business. Some like to have the most expensive ring on their finger made out of platinum along with the top notch quality diamond. This is ok if you can afford it although personally I think white gold or palladium looks just as good and would cost half the price. This is a personal choice and usually the woman has her mind set on what she wants even before getting engaged.
Other women aren’t particular to what the ring is made of and are satisfied with any type of ring which represents a symbol of love and is to their liking. A promise ring is usually the term for a ring which symbolizes love as well as a commitment between two people. It can also be used as the engagement ring when the time comes. These promise rings are mostly made in Titanium, as a tension set with the color stone of their choice or even a diamond. This is something usually more discrete and less pricey.
